On August 30th we arrived in Chalon sur Saone. The ship that loaded last in Holland had to unload first for that carried the container where all the contra weights (also known as kentledge) should go in. Read more

Strike

Last night we stayed in St. Jean de Losne, after we came back from the vet (stitches Chica) and shopping we thought it was to late to go any further. Around 10 pm last night I found out already that this was not very smart after all…. I got an email… VNF announcement about strikes all over the country and when we came at the lock of Seurre this morning it was clear. Double red light, no movements at all! Read more

Nine locks to go and we are in Salaise! Almost at the end of this trip.. almost but still 300 kilometers to go but we are going faster now. Locks are bigger and more water under the ship. Read more

We started early today for I have some shopping to do in Givet, the First Frenche village we pass. When ready the next part of our trip can start, 3 kilometres after Givet the first smaller lock and just after it the first tunnel. Not a big one but a nasty one it is narrow and not high, when we are in I try to get some pictures of the rocky walls. Read more

Halfway Belgium the landscape gets nicer and the stinking factories make place for lovely villages like Namur and Dinant. At the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers you can see the Citadel or Castle of Namur, a fortress in the city of Namur. It is originally from the Roman era, but has been rebuilt several times.
